John M. Green
John M. Green is the owner and principal of Green Law Offices, LLC, a dental malpractice defense firm located in Chicago, Illinois. Since founding the firm in 2007, Green and his associate attorneys have successfully represented dentists throughout the Midwest in civil lawsuits, licensing matters, and other legal matters affecting the dental profession.
While his primary focus is on law, John has also been in private dental practice in Oak Lawn, Illinois, since 1987. His experience as a practicing general dentist helps him keep abreast of changing trends and technology in dentistry, which, in turn, leads to more effective representation of his law clients. Moreover, when retained to represent dentists in a legal matter, he takes it personally – allegations made against his clients motivate and drive him to obtain excellent results, both in and out of the courtroom.
John developed a strong interest in the law and how it affects the dental profession after attending a risk management seminar taught by a dentist who was also a lawyer. Encouraged by his dentist father, John enrolled at DePaul University College of Law where he finished law school at night in 1992. After graduating, he joined a large Chicago law firm specializing in insurance defense where he gained significant experience in courtroom techniques. However, after a period of time, he realized that a big law firm was not an efficient way to provide cost-effective representation for his dental clients. That prompted him to start his own firm.
Throughout his legal career, John has defended more than 750 cases and has tried more than 50 dental cases in state court, before the state dental board, and in mandatory arbitration hearings – more than any dental defense attorney in the state of Illinois.
In 2012, after successfully defending two general dentists at trial in an oral cancer case, John was recognized by the Jury Verdict Reporter and honored with a Trial Lawyer Excellence Award. While winning this case against a very prominent plaintiff’s firm in Chicago stands out as perhaps his most recognized professional achievement in law, John takes great pride in his day-to-day efforts to defend dentists by seeking dismissal of their cases, preparing them well for their depositions, and when necessary, taking those cases to trial in order to exonerate the dentist.
In addition to his trial experience, John frequently presents seminars on risk management and dento-legal issues for local branches of the Chicago Dental Society (CDS), Illinois State Dental Society (ISDS), dental study clubs, and insurance companies. He is recognized by the Illinois State Dental Board (ISDB) and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) as an approved provider for Continuing Education (CE) programs for dentists. John also authors a monthly column for the Chicago Dental Society magazine, Review, in which he writes about different legal issues facing the dental profession and how best to handle them.
In addition to his work, John is most passionate about his family. He volunteered his time as a coach for many of his children’s sporting activities, including baseball, basketball and hockey; and has assisted his wife, a breast cancer survivor, in her efforts to raise money for breast cancer research. He is also very active in his church, serving on committees to raise money for the parish’s elementary school.
